ROUNDS

WHEEL OF STEEL

ROUND ONE reveals how well a DJ can mix. Usually DJs specialize in a particular genre so we thought it would be fun to mix it up a bit. The "Wheel of Steel" is our giant turntable with random genres of electronic music on the disc to help us select the type of music for the DJs.

As an introductory round for each episode the DJ contestants will have two minutes to mix the never-before-heard songs. They will be judged on their beat-matching, style of mix and their stage presence.

Genres may include: House, Breaks, Hip Hop, Glitch Hop, Trance, Hardstyle, Trip Hop, Drum & Bass, Techno & Dubstep... and many more!

TRIVIA

ROUND TWO is always a faceoff with trivia questions. Every DJ should know the basics about equipment and what festivals and products are hot. We take the know-how to the next level! Trivia challenges include:

  • Fill out the "DJ Crossword Puzzle"
  • Complete the "Word Search of DJ Brands"
  • Guess the "Beats Per Minute" (BPM) without going over
    • Other trivia is -: "Name that Festival", "Who's That Artist", "Name that Scratch" ... +

     

    STUNTS

    ROUND THREE is the terrifying / exhilarating experience of being a nightclub or scratch DJ. Each contestant has two minutes to make a mix and is judged on beat-matching, transition and stage presence. Our goal in this stunt round is to test the professionals. Examples include:

  • Mix two records while "Blindfolded"
  • Make a mix while engaging with two "Interfering Fans"
  • The "Beer Run" challenge is to make a mix and leave it open while you run down to the Beer Girl, drink the beer and run back to save the mix.

    • Other stunts include - "Beat-Juggle This", "3 @ Once", "Scratch like Me" and many more!
